Carnforth Karate Club, was set up in 2008 by Sensei Chris Haggan (4th Dan). The aim of the club is to provide highy quality tuition in Wado Ryu Karate. In 2016, the club was renamed as St. Martins Karate Carnforth in memory of Sensei Jack Parker (RIP) and also to illustrate the strong between the club and St. Martins Junior Karate Club. The club maintains strong links with other local martial arts groups in the area. The clubs aim is to maintain high standards and focus on quality over qunatity.
The clubs instructor is Sensei Chris Haggan (4th Dan) who has been practising Wado Ryu Karate for over 30 years. Chris's main influence on his karate was Sensei Jack Parker RIP (founder of St. Martins Junior Karate Club). Chris has also tried a few other martial arts classes and is currently studying with a Filipino Martial Arts group. Chris teaches karate as a hobby and does not receive any payment.
Chris works full time as a driving instructor and enjoys photography - both of which require an attention to detail.
Chris is also a founding member of Lancaster's International Youth Games Committee, which is a voluntary organistaion set up to keep the Lancaster area involved with the International Youth Games - held annually in one of 4 host cities (Lancaster, Aalborg, Almere and Rendsburg). This was set up after Lancaster City Council took the decision to stop funding the Games in 2016.
